As a semester Long project for my advanced fluid dynamics course, I researched, designed, machined, and assembled a vortex tube. Vortex tubes use high pressure air in order to create a stream of hot air at one end and cold air at the other. This vortex tube delivered cold air at a temperature of -26.7 C, and hot air at 37.78 C
I created this animation to explain the process of how the vortex tube works.
This recording shows the vortex tube, which I had created, in operation. This is one of the many runs done with similar results.
